The Best "Healthy" Alcoholic Beach Drinks

I’ve been on a hunt for a summer adult beverage that meets the following criteria: 1) low sugar 2) few ingredients 3) no preservatives & lastly 4) low carbs/calories. I’m happy to say I found two options that have become my new favorite health-conscious drinks: White Claw and Truly. They are basically alcoholic versions of La Croix, so if you’re a La Croix person you have a 99% chance of becoming a White Claw and Truly person.

Let's compare the two.

White Claw

  • 100 calories
  • 2g carbs/sugars
  • 5% ABV
  • gluten free

I bought the variety pack and flavors included natural lime, raspberry, ruby grapefruit, and black cherry (raspberry being my favorite). I loved these because they were a little sweet, but not overbearingly so. Free of gluten, artificial sweeteners and preservatives... this is my kind of drink.

Truly Spiked & Sparkling

  • 100 calories
  • 2g carbs
  • 1g sugar
  • 5% ABV
  • gluten free

So the only real difference here is the sugar content. Truly only contains 1g of sugar, and you can tell. If you want a drink that isn’t very sweet but still has a hint of flavor, go with Truly. It’s refreshing and perfect for a day out on the beach. I can only speak for the Colima Lime flavor, but I can’t wait to try their variety pack! I found Truly was a bit more expensive than White Claw, so compare prices at the store and choose what’s best for you.

Both brands come in sleek, beautifully designed cans that are easy for transporting anywhere, and both are great alternatives to beer (which leave me feeling full and blah) or mixed drinks (loaded with calories). I love champagne's bubbles, but I don't like all the sugary or the inevitable hangover I'll get the next morning. Spiked seltzer gives me bubbles, flavor, fewer calories and carbs, and leaves me feeling great.

Asking which one of these seltzers is better is like asking, “Beach or pool?” Both are great... it just depends on your mood! Have you tried White Claw or Truly? Which do you like better? What’s your favorite flavor?
